Video Delivery

Whether you’re a Fortune 1000 company, a network of hospitals, regional school district or large government agency, your network is complex. A variety of different applications, many of them mission-critical, compete for resources on the same IP network infrastructure. Adding video communications to this network, for most organizations, is challenging and potentially risky, if that network is not properly “enabled”.

With Starbak V3, organizations of any size can be confident that their IP network will support the creation, storage and distribution of live and on-demand video programs. With V3, the critical “distributed network” specifically designed for handling video, is included with every system. This distributed network solution, designed and built by Starbak to work seamlessly with the V3 system, is provided in the form of Starbak Delivery Nodes—local streaming servers that organize into a hierarchy, allowing video files and streams to be served locally to viewers over high-bandwidth corporate LANs, while preserving scarce WAN bandwidth. By deploying Starbak Delivery Nodes at office locations and remote sites, organizations can be confident that they will not suffer network outages, delays or downtime as a result of increasing video traffic and demand. In addition, viewers can be guaranteed a high-quality, TV-like viewing experience since video is served locally, not from a central remote site.

Starbak Delivery Node
The Starbak Delivery Node is server software that allows video applications to scale as required to support business objectives, while ensuring that consumption of WAN bandwidth does not exceed limitations. The Starbak Delivery Node is a Windows Media and HTTP delivery device that can be used alone, at the organizations central site, or with hundreds of other nodes in a complex hierarchy that provides optimum performance and economic advantages.

The Starbak Delivery Node provides full, on-demand and broadcast support for unicast stream splitting and unicast-to-multicast and rescheduled rebroadcast, using a single inbound stream. The Starbak Delivery Node transparently delivers content originating from the Starbak Encoder and Starbak Conference Engine to remote users for both live events and on-demand replay.

The Starbak Delivery Node is available as an appliance, in either a rack-mounted configuration for data center environments, or as a smaller, office configuration designed for small branches and satellite offices. Or, the customer may choose to purchase the Starbak Delivery Node as a software-only solution, ready to be installed on their own server platform.
